JAM Paper officially opens at 68 Jobs Lane, in Southampton, New York, on June 25th, in time for the July 4th holiday.

Mike Jacobs, owner of JamPaper.com and 4 JAM Paper & Envelope retail stores, has had a summer home in Southampton for 35 years. His son Andrew, who runs the retail operation, has been coming out Southampton since he was born, over 30 years ago. For years, Mike and Andrew have casually spoken about opening a store in the Hamptons. "We thought it would be so much fun, but we knew we'd always want to be working instead of relaxing", said Mike Jacobs. "And our wives were very against the idea", joked Mike.

Last year, the Jacobs' put in an offer for the former Saks, on the corner of Main street. "It was too large of store for us to watch sit empty ", said Andrew Jacobs. Negotiations soon followed, as well as a draft of a lease. But unfortunately, the owner changed his mind at the last minute and kept the space empty, rather than filling it with a Pop Up store.  Earlier this year, the Jacobs' contacted the owner of that building again, and again they thought there was  a chance, but it ended up staying empty. Both times, their wives were relieved that negotiations were not successful.

Walking the streets of Southampton during Memorial Day weekend, Mike noticed there were still a few stores for rent. When they saw the second largest store in town available, the old Stevenson's toy store available, they couldn’t resist calling the Morley Agency.   Within a week, they had a signed contract, and within a week after, they were able to open. JAM Paper officially opens June 25th, in time for the July 4th holiday. We are extremely excited to be part of the Southampton retail scene" said Andrew Jacobs.  "But if you see either of us at the store working on the weekends, please don't our their wives, or we will be in a real JAM"

JAM Paper pop up - Following the Upper East Side crowds to the Hamptons

JAM Paper & Envelope hopes to open their Southampton, New York pop up store within a week.

Two months ago, JAM Paper lost its month-to-month lease on the upper east side after two years. Instead of giving up, JAM followed their upper east side clients to the Hamptons.  "City retail is dead during the summer" said owner Andrew Jacobs, who currently operates 2 permanent NYC locations. "We wanted to be where are customers were, and many of our customers are in the Hamptons.

After calling every available store with a for rent sign in the window Memorial Day weekend, Jacobs made a fast deal for 68 Jobs Lane. "We hope to open within a week," said Jacobs. "We only have until Labor Day to catch the crowds! And then, its back to the city to find another Upper East Side store for the holiday season!"

As of now, JAM only has 1 employee hired for the Hamptons pop up, but Jacobs is not worried. "If anyone knows someone looking to work, tell them to stop by!" And if he doesn’t find someone, Jacobs said he'll commute from his home in New York City and help in the store if necessary. "There are worst things I can be doing during the summer than hanging out in Southampton!"
